Fire and Ice - Autumn Term 2023

The Year 2 children have already created the WOW factor in our learning environment with their homework! This term in Fire and Ice, they will first learn about the historical events of the Great Fire of London, using drama and written work to create story booklets and bring them to life. There will be a Year 2 ‘Bakers Day’ and children will work in teams to make and bake their own delicious bread rolls. After half-term, in our ICE topic and related science work, the children will learn about how animals are adapted to live in cold habitats and create snowy scenes in their artwork. 

 

 

Inventors and Pioneers - Spring Term 2024

This term our topic will be Inventors and Pioneers.

In our history lessons, we will be finding out about different inventions and how they were made, as well as learning about amazing pioneers, such as Mae Jemison and Amelia Earhart, and how they changed the world.

As part of our literacy lessons, we will be designing a robot and using our persuasive language skills to try and get it made.

In science, we will be exploring materials and using this knowledge to design and make some wings for an injured bird.

As well as this, we hope to go on an exciting school trip. Keep your eyes peeled for more information.

 

A Drop in the Ocean - Summer Term 2024

For the summer term, the Year 2 topic is “A Drop in the Ocean”. The children will be finding out about the history of the seaside as well as researching different sea creatures and creating amazing information posters. At home, the children have created some fantastic model lighthouses, beach huts and information posters all about the ocean. They are proudly on display in the KS1 library area for everyone to enjoy. In science, they will be learning all about plants, including going on a scavenger hunt and learning how seeds germinate by growing their own flowers.  This term, the children will start swimming lessons and build their confidence in the water.
