Into the wild Summer  2022

Our topic for the summer term is called Into the Wild. The children will be exploring various aspects of life in the Amazon rainforest, from the animals that live there to the devastating impact of deforestation. The children are given the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in a different culture, finding out about both the differences and similarities with that of their own. We will then go back in time to the age of the Mayans and discover the secrets of this ancient yet highly advanced civilization.

Extreme Earth  - Spring Term 2022

Our topic for this term is Extreme Earth. In this geography and science-based topic we start by looking at natural disasters, both geological (earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis) and meteorological (hurricanes and tornadoes). In the second part of the topic we move onto look at man-made disasters such as wildfires and oil spills and their environmental impact. We will look at both the causes of disasters and their effects on the natural world using real-life examples as our guide. Children will participate in a range of activities for this topic, from disaster survival guides to practical activities such as constructing earthquake-proof buildings.

Brave New World - Autumn Term 2021

Our topic for the Autumn term is Brave New World. The topic starts with the children participating in their own version of the 'Battle of Bosworth', which started the Tudor reign. The children will then develop a strong understanding of the Tudor kings and queens, their influence on Britain at the time and their legacy. The children will study the decisions and changes made by the Tudor monarchs relating to religion, healthcare, social hierarchies, and punishment.

In the second part of the term, we will be focusing on Tudor exploration of the ‘New World’. We will look at famous explorers like Walter Raleigh and Francis Drake, the ships they captained and the riches they returned to England. We will also use our geography skills to look at the routes these explorers took and the importance of the resources they gathered. The term culminates in a Tudor day, in which the children will participate in a range of Tudor activities.
