Topic Information

Jaws, Paws and Claws! Summer Term

Our topic for the Summer Term is Jaws, Paws and Claws! It is a very exciting topic where we get to explore all kinds of animals. We start our topic by looking at animals called 'pets' which may live in our homes. We find out how to care for pets and explore this further in our vets role-play. After the half-term, we begin to look at animals in the wild! The children will look at different habitats and find out about animals which live in the sea, on land or in the air! The children have an opportunity to explore all kinds of animals and find out many interesting facts along the way!

The Enchanted Forest Spring Term

In Spring Term we will enter The Enchanted Forest - a magical place full of fun and wonder! We encourage the children to explore their imaginations through looking at well-known texts and traditional tales and using these in role-play and arts and crafts. We will promote communication and language through the retelling of stories, learning to recite key parts and using key vocabulary related to size and measure. We will learn about woodland animals, what they need to survive and investigate the past and present.

Magical, Marvellous Me! Autumn Term

Welcome to the exciting world of Reception! The Autumn term is extremely important in getting to know the children. Therefore, our first topic is called Magical Marvellous Me where they will share their beautiful treasure boxes with the rest of the class. During this topic we will begin to build friendships and understand what a good friend is. We will discuss our feelings; get to know the classroom routines and expectations and learn how to stay healthy. Once settled, the children will start to learn their phonic sounds and will develop their counting skills. Leading up to Christmas, the children will have an opportunity to star in their own Nativity play!
