Remote E-Safety

Online Safety

Online activity in homes may be increased at this time so it is important that all our children  remember their digital citizenship responsibilities to look after themselves and others both online and offline.  The DfE have advised: parents and carers may choose to supplement the school (or college) online offer with support from online companies and in some cases individual tutors. (We would therefore like to) emphasise the importance of securing online support from a reputable organisation/individual who can provide evidence that they are safe and can be trusted to have access to children. Support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online includes:

  • NSPCC Net Aware provides a useful guide to social networks and apps.

  • Thinkuknow is the education programme from the National Crime Agency-CEOP, a UK organisation which protects children both online and offline for different age groups and parents.

  • Childnet has produced a Parent and Carer Toolkit which is a collection of three resources designed to help you talk to your child about their online life, manage boundaries around family internet use and point you in the direction of where to get further help and support.

  • Internet matters - for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online

  • London Grid for Learning - for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online

  • Parent info - for support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online

  • UK Safer Internet Centre - advice for parents and carers

The school is keen to work with parents to ensure our pupils are safe when using the Internet. In school we have a team of staff who work to develop the children's, parents and staff awareness of e-safety. Our e-safety lead teachers are Mrs Sutcliff in conjunction with her role as PSHE Lead and Mr Button in his role as Computing Lead.

We have recently had the NSPCC, in conjunction with O2 (mobile network provider), in school to deliver training to parents sharing advice on e-safety and how to keep our children safe at home. To get free help about  how to use parental controls, use of social networking sites you can contact the NSPCC/O2 on 0808 800 5002.
