Computing

Below you will find the statement of intent and the subject overview.

Computing at Eastbrook

Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes

Edsger Dijkstra

Digital Literacy - At Eastbrook, we instil in the children that the use of technology is not limited to the use of a computer. As technology continues to make larger impacts on everyone’s lives, the children learn that there is a range of tools available to them which will prepare them for their present and future. Our aim is for children to use technology effectively, creatively and responsibly, with frequent opportunities to demonstrate and enhance their learning across the curriculum. We want Eastbrook children from all backgrounds to be confidently and more independently accessing learning, be it at school or home. By creating a safe discussion environment to encourage open conversation about the positive use of technology, Eastbrook children will be prepared to competently take their place in the digital world.

Computer Science - At Eastbrook, the skills acquired when learning computer science extend far beyond the laptops and tablets the children have grown accustomed to. As curious and creative problem solvers, they use their coding and computational critical thinking skills to analyse open-ended problems and adapt solutions in computational terms. Opportunities are given to make links between the real world and the digital world and how strategies can be employed to ensure the two are interwoven.
