PE and Sport Premium

What is the PE and Sport Premium?

In recent years, the Government has provided Primary Schools with an additional grant for improving the participation and attainment of pupils in PE and Sports. At Eastbrook Primary Academy we received £9,725 for the academic year 2016-2017.

In July 2017, the Department of Education confirmed that the Primary PE & Sport Premium will double for 2017-18. This is a straight doubling of the current formula which will allow us to be able to deliver further improvements to our PE & Sport provision. Updated guidance will be released in October.

Purpose of the funding

Schools must spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

At Eastbrook we pride ourselves on promoting a range of activities - through the taught curriculum, extracurricular activities and visits - which encourage an active lifestyle. We believe that the combination of providing an innovative, varied PE curriculum and a wide-range of extracurricular opportunities will have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.  As a school we have fantastic facilities for PE including large playing fields and an indoor pool.

Our school has a long history of sporting success in the local area and this is something we are keen to continue. We aim to provide opportunities for as many of our pupils as possible to represent the school in a range of sporting events.  We are also keen to develop their leadership and coaching skills.

" The sports premium is used effectively.  Employing an extra specialist member of staff and developing links with a secondary school mean that a wide range of sports, including swimming, is available to all pupils.  The school has been very successful in inter-school competitions and ensures that all pupils have the opportunity to participate in sporting activities."
