Physical Education

Below you will find the statement of intent and the subject overview.

PE at Eastbrook

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Michael Jordan

Quality physical education should give EVERY child the physical literacy and emotional and thinking skills to achieve in PE, sports and wider life.

The development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning underpin our approach to teaching PE at Eastbrook, which is why we use the ‘Real PE’ scheme of work alongside our existing PE curriculum.

At Eastbrook, we deliver:

  • A well-taught, progressive curriculum where ALL children access 2 hours of quality physical education per week, including a half term of Outdoor Adventure Activities through our Forest School Curriculum.
  • A wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities.
  • Access to a range of competitive opportunities, with a particular focus on providing opportunities for children with SEND.

We also strongly believe that learning to swim is a vital life skill, particularly given our proximity to the sea and rivers.  We have an indoor pool to deliver the lessons through a qualified swimming teacher, alongside class teachers.  We offer swimming lessons within our PE provision for children in Years 1 - 6, in order to help them to swim confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 meters by the time they leave our school.

Core Eastbrook Learning Value: Perseverance

“I see all the new challenges as opportunities to learn and develop.”
